Moscow, Russia (TSN) – Fifth-seeded Mary Pierce defeated second seed Monica Seles to capture the title at the $1 million Kremlin Cup. The title was Pierce’s first since April.
Pierce outslugged Seles 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 on Sunday, coming back from a 3-0 deficit to win in straight sets over an admittedly sluggish Monica Seles. It took the French star one hour and 32 minutes to win her third final of the year in four tries. Seles is now 2-4 in final appearances this year.
